The Geneva — Zermatt route
From Geneva Airport, the route follows the Valais from west to east: the A9 motorway along Lake Geneva, past Lausanne and Montreux, then the Rhône valley via Sion and Sierre to Visp. At Visp you leave the motorway for the cantonal road up the Matter valley to Täsch.
Total distance: ≈ 240 km. It is mostly motorway to Visp, then a valley road for the last 30 km.
How long does it take?
Allow about 3 hours to Täsch, outside traffic and stops. In high season (winter Saturdays, holidays), add a margin. From Täsch, the train to the village takes about 12 minutes and runs very regularly.
The key point: Zermatt is car-free
No combustion car enters Zermatt. Your driver drops you at the Täsch car park (Matterhorn Terminal), from where you take the shuttle train to the village centre (12 min). In the village, only taxis and electric vehicles circulate. Factor this train transfer into your timing, especially with luggage or ski gear.
Winter and luggage tips
- The Valais road is cleared and safe, but our vehicle has winter tyres with chains on board for the last kilometres in case of heavy snow.
